Write the Vision

A VISION is a clear mental picture of a desirable future.

Writing your vision is a powerful way to stay focused on what your dreams are.

I believe most people have dreams, do you? Do you envision a future that is brighter and happier?

A Vision Journal | To journal your hopes and dreams.

It took years for me to finally put pen to paper, to write my thoughts down. As natural as it would seem, my divorce wasn’t an immediate catalyst for me to catalog my journey. In fact, several years would pass before I would write my first journal.

In the beginning, it wasn’t so much about the future, but more about my present situation.  I would write as I talked to God.  Until one day, it changed.  I was done living in the past.  I was tired of going back and forth with the same old, same old.  I no longer wanted to live the insanity of doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different outcome. I was divorced but I was holding on to an unreasonable hope that maybe we’d work it out.  Yeah, that was me!  There was a time when I thought I would never meet someone else and marry again.  But I finally realized, it was time for a real change.  I started to dream again and my future was hopeful.  I decided that I did want to be married again.

So, that is when I began to journal about what I wanted to see in my future.  On the list, at the top, was my desire to be married.  By simply writing it down, I knew I would one day get married again.  An important step to writing the vision, any vision, is being specific; you must know what it is you really want.  First, I knew he had to be a man of God.  Yes, I got very specific.  Of course, he had to be tall, dark and handsome.  He couldn’t be from my hometown.  I wanted to meet someone new that no one in my circle knew.  The list went on and on.  It was nearly four years later before my vision would manifest.  Honestly, I had forgotten all about the vision I wrote until I told my girlfriend about this wonderful man I met and God brought it back to my remembrance.  Later that same day, I pulled out my journal and it was crazy how all I prayed for and wanted in a man, God provided it all. Writing the vision is powerful.  Don’t just think it, get it out of your head and write it down.

“And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.” ~ Habakkuk 2:2 KJV

“A man without vision is a man without a future.  A man without a future will always return to his past.” ~ P. K.  Bernard

A Vision Board | Any sort of board on which you display images of whatever you want to be, do or have in your life.

It was almost two years ago when I created my first vision board.  I really didn’t know much about a vision board.  I once read where Oprah believed in them and you would think that would have sparked my interest in creating one, but it didn’t.   Well, I was in this mastermind group and my coach at the time made it part of our assignment.  I didn’t even know where to start, so the first thing I did was pray.  I know that God has a plan for me, so why not ask him to help guide me with my vision board.  The ideas started flowing and it was so exciting.  I bought magazines and cut out quotes that were fitting for where I want to see myself in the future.  My coach said to dream big, and boy did I do just that.  I added scriptures that would increase my faith because fear had been a major roadblock for me and I was ready to overcome it.  I used photos of places I plan to visit.  There are many other images that I used, but you will have to wait; I will share them in the future.

Well, guess what?  This past Thanksgiving, I was sharing my vision board with family when one of my daughters told me that most of the dreams on my vision board have already happened.  And, I realized that she was right.  I am so excited about all of the content on my vision board coming to fruition.

“But these things I plan won’t happen right away.  Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled.  If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass.  Just be patient!  They will not be overdue a single day!” ~ Habakkuk 2:3 TLB

“You are never too old to set another goal, or to dream a new dream.” ~ C. S. Lewis

Declaration | I have a purpose I must fulfill.  I see the vision. I will write the vision. I will fulfill the vision.
