Why Me?

Have you ever asked yourself, “Why me?” I bet most of us have asked the question or had the thought, “Why me?!” at least once.

Well, here we are in the New Year, and it seems like we just celebrated my favorite holiday, Christmas, Jesus’ birthday! As we celebrated the birth of Christ, I couldn’t help but to think about his mother, Mary. Why did God choose Mary?

I wonder if Mary ever thought, “Why me?”

It intrigued me so much that I couldn’t stop thinking…WHY Mary? I started to meditate on the scripture and I finally realized why.

(Luke 1:26-27, 29-30)

God chose Mary, not her family, not her friends, not her teachers, not her pastor...Out of all the women in the world in the world, God chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus. Why did God choose Mary? It wasn’t because of her education, wealth or maturity. As a matter of fact, Mary was plain and ordinary, yet God used her in an extraordinary way.

I believe God chose Mary because she trusted God and was willing to be used by God. God is looking for people to use. He is eagerly waiting to use you in ways you have not even imagined. So let’s look at the following scripture.

(Luke 1:28-30) (NIV)

(v.28) The angel went to Mary and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

(v.29) Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

The Living Bible translates verse 29 [confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean.]

(v.30) But the angel said to her, “Do Not Be Afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.

(Luke 1:38)(TLB) Mary said, “I am the Lord’s servant, and I am willing to do whatever he wants. May everything you said come true.” And the angel disappeared.

God chose Mary and God favored Mary because she was willing to be used by Him. I bet Mary had the fear of criticism-“What’s everybody going to think?” But, even though she was afraid, she trusted Him.

Just like God chose Mary, God chose you to birth something great! What vision, dream, or the next greatest invention has God given you?

As you prepare, a few thoughts could cause you to second guess your calling:

“This doesn’t make sense.”

“No one has ever done this before.”

“How will this work?”

As you prepare for delivery, remember these 3 things:

  • The Lord is with you!

  • Do not be afraid!

  • You are highly favored by God!

Lastly, Mary sealed it with her words of faith! She believed…

Are you ready to trust God? Are you willing to be used by God?

The next time you start to think or ask why me; ask “Why not me?”
